Cake Layer
  • 1 batch Chocolate Cake Use a moist chocolate cake for the best flavor.
Cream Layer
  • 2 cups Whipped Cream Feel free to use store-bought or homemade, and add vanilla extract.
Cherry Layer
  • 2 cups Cherries Fresh are ideal; if using canned or frozen, drain and rinse.

  • 1 cup Chocolate Shavings Dark chocolate enriches this dessert; white chocolate is an option.

Equipment

  • Trifle dish
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Electric mixer
  • Wire rack

Method

Preparation Steps
  1. Prepare the Chocolate Cake: Bake the chocolate cake at 350°F (175°C) for about 30-35 minutes. Allow it to cool completely on a wire rack.
  2. Whip the Cream: Beat 2 cups of heavy cream on medium-high speed until soft peaks form, about 3-5 minutes. Optionally add sugar or vanilla extract.
  3. Chop the Cherries: Wash, pit, and slice fresh cherries in half. If using canned or frozen, ensure they are well-drained and rinsed.
  4. Layer the Trifle: In a trifle dish, start with a layer of cubed chocolate cake, then a spoonful of whipped cream, and a sprinkling of cherries. Repeat until filled, finishing with whipped cream on top.
  5. Garnish: Add chocolate shavings and a whole cherry on top. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
  6. Serve and Enjoy: After chilling, serve with a spatula. Best enjoyed cold.
