Preparation Steps
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
- Slice the slightly stale croissants into halves or quarters and layer them in the greased baking dish.
- Sprinkle the mixed berries evenly over the layered croissants.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, vanilla extract, granulated sugar, and optional lemon zest until smooth.
- Pour the custard mixture over the croissant and berry layers, gently pressing down to encourage absorption and let it sit for 15-20 minutes.
- Bake in the oven for 35-40 minutes until the top is golden brown and the center jiggles slightly.
- Allow to cool for 10-15 minutes, dust with powdered sugar, and serve.
