Ingredients
  

For the Beef Mixture
  • 1 pound Ground Beef 80/20 blend for flavor and moisture
  • 2 cloves Garlic Minced
  • 1 tablespoon Dried Oregano Or Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cumin For warmth and earthiness
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika Smoked for different flavor
  • to taste teaspoon Salt
  • to taste teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper Optional for heat
  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil For cooking
For the Tzatziki Sauce
  • 1 cup Greek Yogurt Or non-dairy yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons Lemon Juice Freshly squeezed
  • 1/2 cup Cucumber Grated
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh Dill Or mint/parsley
  • to taste teaspoon Salt
  • to taste teaspoon Pepper
For the Gyros Assembly
  • 4 pieces Pita Bread Or gluten-free pita
  • 1 small Red Onion Sliced
  • 1 large Tomato Diced
  • 1 cup Lettuce Leaves Chopped
  • 1/2 cup Feta Cheese Or vegan cheese, optional

Method
 

Prepare Tzatziki
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine Greek yogurt, lemon juice, grated cucumber, dill, salt, and pepper. Stir until creamy and refrigerate for 15 minutes.
Cook Beef
  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté minced garlic until fragrant, about 1 minute. Add ground beef and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
Season Beef
  1. Stir in oregano, cumin, paprika, salt, black pepper, and optional cayenne. Cook for another 2-3 minutes.
Warm Pita Bread
  1. Warm the pita bread in a dry skillet for 1 minute on each side or in a preheated oven at 350°F for 5 minutes.
Assemble Gyros
  1. Place cooked beef in the center of each pita. Top with red onions, tomatoes, lettuce, and tzatziki. Sprinkle with feta.
Serve
  1. Roll the pita around the fillings and serve immediately with extra tzatziki.
